2020 Social Officers

The Award Winning J. Frank Dobie Lariaettes are known for their innovative style of dance. They have become a well rounded dance team that not only performs at football games and other school events, but compete at dance competitions earning many awards. Throughout the year the team learns self discipline, respect, confidence, poise and the hard work necessary to produce quality performances.  The participate in numerous community events yearly, as well as host multiple dance clinics for future Lariaettes.

The Lariaettes enjoy many social events throughout the year that give the team a chance to bond. Installation is the right of passage for “Babies” as the new girls and escorts are welcomed to the team. Bob and Sue is a father/daughter field routine allowing the Dads a chance to shine. Royal Ball is a formal event recognizing the team and their hard work. And finally, Mother/Daughter luncheon recognizes Moms and yearly awards are announced and next year’s officers are installed.

The year culminates in May with the annual Spring Show.  Competition Routines and New Choreography performed by the Lariaettes are the highlights of the show. Dance training, Lassos, & the Partnering classes also perform, along with dancers from community studios, drill teams and dance clinic participants.

To become a Lariaette, you must have completed Dance training class or Lassos in addition to trying out for the team in the Spring. See your counselor if you are interested in the drill training class.  Dance 1 & 2 are offered, Dance 1 being a fine arts credit, and if you take Dance for a second year, you will receive PE credit once enrolled in Dance 2.

We also offer a Partnering Class, and it consists of girls and boys learning partnering lifts, stunts, etc.  The class cumulates with a performance at Spring Show.  The class is offered 2nd period in the Spring Semester, and consists of Senior Lariaettes & cheerleaders, as well as Senior Guys to partner them.  If you are interested, see the Lariaette Director, or a Senior Lariaette in the fall of your Senior Year.

Young men can also support the team by becoming a Lariaette Escort. Tryouts are in May. Escorts play an essential part of the Lariaettes by providing support at numerous team activities.  Flyers will be posted each spring, and applications can be picked up in the dance room at that time.

The Lassos are a freshman only JV Dance Team here at J.Frank Dobie HS.  The main role of the Lassos is to serve as a preparatory program for the Lariaettes.  Throughout the year the Lassos work on basic dance  technique as well as learn choreography.  They also have the opportunity to perform at various events throughout the school year.
