The band program at Dobie High School and Dobie9 includes the Longhorn Marching Band, three competing UIL concert bands (Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band), Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, two competing Winter Guards (Varsity and JV), and various chamber ensembles.
The Dobie Longhorn Band program has a rich tradition of success in UIL competition and routinely earns the coveted UIL Sweepstakes Award, awarded to band programs that achieve Superior Ratings in Marching, Concert, and Sight-Reading in a single academic year. This is the highest honor a band program may be awarded in UIL competition. The Longhorn Marching Band routinely advances to the Area level in UIL Competition, while the Dobie concert bands have a long tradition of Superior Ratings in Concert & Sight-Reading. The Dobie Wind Ensemble has advanced to the Area level in the TMEA Honor Band Competition (held every two years) in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018, and was named the Region 19 Honor Band in 2014. The Wind Ensemble has also appeared in concert with the Houston Symphony, has twice appeared at the Music for All National Concert Band Festival (2008 and 2011) and has established itself as one of the premier concert ensembles in the greater Houston area.
